MADISON – Today, Dane County Leaders held a press conference to address critical concerns regarding the incoming federal administration and its potential implications for the county. County officials discussed the impact on local governance, law enforcement, and community safety.

“Dane County has a long history of taking care of each other during times of change, chaos, emergencies, and disruption. This period will be no different, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard said. “Our county staff are prepared to continue providing crucial services as a result of any disruption to our community. My commitment to you is that the County will continue our long track record of serving its residents.”

“The first priority of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office is ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.  We will continue to focus our enforcement efforts on local crimes. Creating barriers and fear for the victims and survivors of crime is not congruent with our mission and vision statements,” Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said. “We encourage anyone who is a victim of a crime or needs to report criminal activity to contact us without hesitation. Your safety and trust are our highest priorities, and we are here to support and protect our community.”

“Our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods become less safe when our neighbors and loved ones are afraid to report crimes and engage in our criminal justice system,” District Attorney Ismael Ozanne stated. “I want to make it clear that no matter who you are or where you come from, my office is committed to helping make Dane County a safe and welcoming place for all.”
